ATHLETE RESPONSIBILITES

  • Cycling BC/UCI memberships are required for all Team Squamish riders.
  • Team Squamish application, code of conduct, waiver and medical forms must be signed and submitted to the team secretary.
  • Team Squamish coaching and kit fees must be paid-up in full.
  • Team Squamish jerseys must be worn at all local races by all riders.
  • Athletes must participate in the scheduled training sessions.
  • If as an elite rider there is a conflict with sponsorship then the rider must let the executive know

RESPECT THE SPONSORS

  • The team exists because of the sponsors support, please show the sponsors the due respect they deserve.
  • When you meet a sponsor, let them know how much you appreciate their support. They will be glad the hear it.
  • Know who the sponsors are, all their logos are on the team uniform.

EXPECTATIONS FOR PARENTS

  • Support your young athlete’s success by ensuring they have the adequate equipment, and that it is kept properly maintained. This includes providing them good quality bikes, riding shoes, and the necessary lube, tools, pump, tires and tubes.
  • Ensure that they show up to training and races properly rested and fed so that they can perform at their best.
  • Make sure that they wear the appropriate clothing layers for the expected weather.
  • Check that they have adequate food and drink and be prepared to provide on-course support at feed and mechanical zones.
  • On occasion, parents will also be called upon to perform duties in support of team events. This would include activities like trail maintenance, support for local race organizers, managing team equipment, organizing rides to events, and participating in community events.
  • Let the coach, coach. In cycling, a successful training program revolves around the athlete’s personal goals and objectives. The coach, along with the athlete can then determine how much effort will be needed to achieve those goals. Be supportive and let your child develop at their own speed.
  • If your athlete is having difficulties in training or races, or can’t attend training etc. encourage them to speak directly to the coaches. This “responsibility taking” is a big part of becoming a mature person. By handling these talks, your athlete is claiming ownership of all aspects of their training.
  • There are lots of tasks parents can do to help minimize the stress on race day so don’t be afraid to ask how you can help your child or the Team.

EXPECTATIONS FOR ATHLETES

  • Be on time and be prepared for races and training sessions.
  • Display self-control in all situations. Never use foul or abusive language-before, during or after a race or training session.
  • Train to the best of your ability, have a positive attitude, and encourage others to do the same.
  • Respect the competition. Treat other riders as you would like them to treat you.
  • Turn up for training and races in appropriate and clean clothing.
  • Take responsibility for you bike, gear and clothing.
  • All Team Squamish riders have to commit to team functions which may include team training rides, mentoring, fundraising, trail maintenance or other activities.
  • All athletes are representing Team Squamish, our community and the team sponsors and your behavior on and off the bike is a direct reflection of the team, its coaching staff and the volunteers who are committing time and energy to support the team.
  • Our job is to help you improve your knowledge, fitness and skills and give you support in your racing endeavors. Your job is to promote the sport through healthy interaction with others, attend training sessions and to have fun.
  • The volunteers and coaching staff are not babysitters and you will be sent home if you come ill prepared for a training ride. That means you have to be responsible and ensure that your bike is in proper running condition, that you regularly maintain it and you have adequate clothing, food and water.
  • The behavior and success of team members is the team’s most powerful marketing tool. We expect all team members to refrain from using drugs, alcohol, profanity and poor sportsmanship and otherwise conduct themselves in an exemplary fashion at all times.
  • We will be noting attendance at all team functions and riders who are not meeting the minimum attendance requirement, without a valid excuse, may be removed from the team roster.
  • All riders will be expected to send their race results to the Team Squamish Statistician when requested.
It is expected that all athletes will provide a current bio for inclusion on the external Team Squamish website.
