The program is designed to progressively develop the knowledge, skills, and fitness necessary to become a competitive cross country mountain biker.
The Team Squamish program runs for 10 months of the year, from November to August. The program is based on three distinct phases, build a foundation, train, and race. The program is further tailored to the training goals of each category.
My name is Mike Charuk. I have been the coach for Team Squamish since May 2010.
I have been involved in competitive mountain biking since 1990. Teams that I have been on are: Whistler Back-roads, Natural Earth Racing and Team Whistler. I am also a member of the National Track Cycling Team as a RMT. My formal education has been in Physical Education (Brock University) Sports Injury Management (Sheridan College) and Massage Therapy (WCCMT) I also have coaching certifications in rugby, boxing and snowboard instructing.
I view my role with Team Squamish not only as a coach in the training capacity but also one as a facilitator and liaison. Common elements of my coaching include but are not limited to:
